What to visit



The municipality of Orihuela is located in the south of the Valencian Community, and with an area of 443.2 km2 it extends to the sea with 16 km of coastline, with a coastline that alternates sandy beaches with cliffs. It is the largest municipality in the province of Alicante and the second largest in the Valencian Community.

Given the vast extension of the territory, the population is distributed between the city and about twenty districts that mark the municipality.

It borders the neighbouring Region of Murcia, from whose capital it is separated by 20 km and 62 km separate it from the city of Alicante, it is 51 kilometres from Alicante-Elche Airport, 48 kilometres from Murcia-San Javier Airport, 2h 22 minutes from Madrid by AVE and is connected by both the A7 Mediterranean Motorway and the AP7 that runs along the coast and links Orihuela with Alicante and Cartagena.

The city stands out for its cultural and natural heritage, with its historic centre, declared historic-artistic and monumental, being the greatest monumental exponent. Its festivities are also relevant and among them the Holy Week, declared of international tourist interest, stands out.

Birthplace of Miguel Hernández, its streets are home to motifs from the life and work of one of Spain's most international poets. Orihuela is one of the main tourist destinations in the Valencian Community. A city that is home to a multitude of treasures, such as Diego Silva Velázquez's work "The Temptation of Saint Thomas", and unique works by the great sculptor Francisco Salzillo.
