Orihuela consolidates its position as a quality tourist destination

On the morning of 6 May, the Councillor for Tourism of Orihuela, Gonzalo Montoya, travelled to the city of Elche to attend the ceremony of delivery of the distinctions of commitment to tourism quality. This event, framed in the SICTED Program (Integral System of Spanish Tourism Quality in Destinations), aims to promote quality in the services offered to tourists within a destination, providing tools for comprehensive quality management.

During the ceremony, the commitment to the SICTED program of several destinations in the province of Alicante was recognized, including Calpe, Altea, Villena, Denia, Guardamar del Segura, Torrevieja, Alcoy, Orihuela and Elche, who obtained or renewed the distinction in 2023.

On this occasion, diplomas were awarded to seven new companies from Orihuela, districts and the coast, which were distinguished for the first time. Among them are Martime, an active tourism company, two tour guides, Hara Gestión Cultural y Consultoría Turística and Guíame, and establishments such as Diven Bite, La Pastelería Salzillo, Finca Pico del Águila and La Galería de La Mirada.

In addition to celebrating the incorporation of these new companies into the SICTED Program, 24 companies were also renewed for their ongoing commitment to tourism quality. These companies, through their dedication and effort, contribute significantly to strengthening the reputation of Orihuela, the coast and districts, as a tourist destination of excellence.

Highlighting the importance of quality in tourism services, the Director General of Tourism, José Manuel Camarero, reaffirmed the Generalitat's commitment to guaranteeing an exceptional experience for visitors.

Orihuela has been a pioneer municipality in the implementation of the SICTED tourism quality system in destination. In 2012, it was the first destination to join the project in the province of Alicante.

Today, Orihuela and its coast have a total of 54 businesses from 19 different trades, including hotels, restaurants, shops, bars, tourist offices, local police, golf courses, museums and more.

This event recognises the effort and dedication of new companies in their search for tourism excellence, and reaffirms Orihuela's commitment to quality and continuous improvement in the tourism sector.
